Preparing your quilt top for long arm quilting

Clip your threads and any little triangles from half square triangles.  This will provide a smooth look for your quilt.

Press your quilt top and backing fabric well.  Be careful not to stretch any bias edges.

The backing fabric and batting should extend at least 4 inches on all sides beyond the quilt top.  To be properly loaded on the quilting machine, the backing fabric must be square and not "off grain".  This is so very important to have a smooth back on your quilt.  We try our best to make your backing fabric work, but if it does not we will contact you.  This may result in your quilt being delayed and we have start on the next quilt.  Therefore, it is so important your backing is square and large enough to begin quilting.

Please note that not all batting is good on long arm machines. Even if the label says that it is.  If you wish to use your own batting, please contact us with the brand and content.  We have a wide selection of batting available.  It is also best if the batting is not seamed.  If you do seam the batting, try to have it as smooth as possible, without any lumpy seams.
